Johann Wolffgang Heydt

Architect, surveyor and draughtsman , who came to Indonesia in 1734 in the service of the Dutch East Indies Company. In 1737 he became the architect and draughtsman of the Company. In this capacity he made numerous drawings of Jakarta and the West Java. Due to his weak health, he repatriated in 1741. 47 of his Indonesian drawings have been engraved to illustrate his ‘Allerneuester Geographisch- und Topographischer Schau-Platz, von Africa and Oost-Indien, etc,’(Willhermsdorff,1744), an extensive and highly important document with regard the early town planning and general topography of Jakarta in the first half of the century.
