| Rappard, Josais Cornelis Dutch. Born in Nijmengen(The Nether Lands), 24 April 1824. Military man and amateur artist, who came to Indonesia in 1842. Draughtsman and atercolorist of topographical views and European social life in Indonesia. Several of his watercolors have been used for chromolithographs in W.A.van Rees’ and M.T.H.Perelaer’s ‘Nederlandsch-Indie’ (leiden,1881-1885). Many of these watercolors were made after photographs and existing prints. The artist left Indonesia for The Netherlands in 1872 and he settled in Leiden, where he executed his watercolors. Died in Leiden, 17 May 1898 |
